Q1. Does 84 Live Sea Salt contains iodine?
Biogreen 84 Live Sea Salt is an unprocessed, natural sea salt that contains very minimal iodine content. Based on the French Food Composition Table (ANSES), the iodine content of pure sea salt is less than 200 µg/100g, which is significantly lower than fortified iodised salt (1860 µg/100g). Iodised salt is usually produced by synthetically spraying potassium iodide or potassium iodate onto the table salt prior to packaging.
Q2. Does salt ever expire?
Sea salt will last for an indefinite amount of time, because salt is a mineral, not an organic substance. So it doesn’t spoil. Furthermore, salt is a natural preservative, which explains why it is typically used to preserve vegetables.
Q3. Why is 84 Live Sea Salt seems wet? Is this normal?
84 Live Sea Salt differs from ordinary table salt or refined salt, as it is harvested using traditional sun- and wind-drying Celtic method. This prized process is done entirely by hand, using only wooden equipment. Having unrefined and not undergoing artificial drying, this preserves the pure flavour of the French salt and so they retain more of the trace minerals that naturally occur in seawater. The less refined the salt, the larger the proportion of minerals and moisture. Trace minerals such as calcium and magnesium chlorides facilitate moisture absorption, thereby allowing the minerals to remain stable in the sea salt and appear clumpy rather than free-flowing. 84 Live Fine Sea Salt contains natural moisture content of up to 3%.
