Q1. Are Biogreen Sultana Raisins suitable for consumption by diabetics?

Yes. Raisins can be included in a diabetic diet with proper carbohydrate allocation.  Two tablespoons of raisins count as one fruit exchange, providing 15 grams of carbohydrate and about 60 calories per exchange. Both the glycemic and insulin indices for raisins are low.

Q2. Why are Biogreen Sultana Raisins added with sunflower oil?

When packaging raisins, a small amount of sunflower oil is added to keep the raisins from clumping and sticking together. Free-flowing raisins are easier to pack. The amount of oil constitutes less than 1% of the product.

Q3. Why are there colour differences between different types of raisins?

The colour variation between raisins is attributed to the drying method. Naturally sun-dried raisins experience gradual oxidation and caramelisation of sugars, thereby yielding dark brown or black appearance. Whereas golden amber looking raisins are typically produced by mechanically drying grapes while exposed to sulfur dioxide to prevent oxidation and caramelisation.
